FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started with counseling at SCCA?
How do I choose the right therapist?
Our Clinical Intake Team can help connect you with a therapist based on your counseling needs, scheduling preferences, and payment information. You can also visit our team page to learn more about our therapists, their areas of focus, and their approaches to counseling.
What types of counseling and therapy do you offer?
SCCA offers a variety of mental health and wellness services, including individual therapy, couples counseling, child and adolescent therapy, spiritual direction, groups and workshops, and ADHD psychological evaluations for adults. Our multidisciplinary team provides evidence-based care for concerns including mood disorders, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and more.
Do you offer in-person and virtual appointments?
Some SCCA therapists offer both in-person and virtual appointments. Availability varies by therapist, so we recommend speaking with our Clinical Intake Team about your preferences when getting started.
Where are you located?
Samaritan Counseling Center of Atlanta is located at 1328 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30309. Our therapists offer appointments throughout the week, with limited evening and weekend appointments available.
How much does counseling cost?
SCCA offers a sliding fee scale based on household income and assets. Current fees for Master's-level therapists range from $30 to $165 per session based on household income, while psychologist fees range from $60 to $200 per session. Couples counseling has a minimum fee of $60. Proof of income, assets, or unemployment may be required to qualify for the sliding scale.
Do you accept insurance?
Several of our clinicians accept insurance, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, and Oscar. Insurance participation varies by clinician. SCCA does not currently accept Medicare or Medicaid.
If your therapist is not in-network with your insurance plan, you may still be eligible for reimbursement through out-of-network benefits. SCCA can provide a detailed statement, or “superbill,” that you can submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement.
What if I can't afford the full cost of counseling?
We believe quality mental health care should be accessible to all. SCCA offers a sliding fee scale based on household income and assets, allowing qualifying clients to receive counseling at a reduced rate. More than 40% of our clients receive subsidized care.
How long is a typical counseling session?
A typical counseling session at SCCA is approximately one hour. Session length may vary depending on the specific service or needs of the client.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your first appointment is an opportunity to get to know your therapist and begin discussing what brings you to counseling. You’ll have the chance to share more about your experiences, concerns, and goals while your therapist helps you determine what the counseling process may look like moving forward.
How often will I meet with my therapist?
The frequency and length of therapy depend on your individual circumstances, treatment goals, schedule, finances, therapist availability, and ongoing needs. Treatment goals and length are part of an ongoing conversation between you and your therapist, and appointments may become less frequent as you make progress.
Do I need to be Christian or religious to receive counseling at SCCA?
No. SCCA welcomes people of every religious and spiritual background, as well as people from a wide range of ages, races, ethnicities, gender expressions and identities, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Spiritual integration is available as the client chooses and is not a requirement for receiving counseling at SCCA.
How does SCCA incorporate faith or spirituality into counseling?
Our mission includes providing spiritually integrated care as the client chooses. This means spirituality can be incorporated into counseling when it is meaningful and desired by the client. SCCA's approach to holistic care recognizes the importance of the whole person, including body, mind, spirit, and community.
What does it mean that SCCA is affiliated with Solihten Institute?
Samaritan Counseling Center of Atlanta is accredited by the Solihten Institute, which provides education and support to an international network of affiliated counseling centers committed to high-quality mental health care. SCCA follows Solihten's model of holistic care, which considers body, mind, spirit, and community as important parts of a person's well-being.
Is counseling confidential?
Yes. SCCA takes your privacy and confidentiality seriously. Information shared in counseling is kept confidential in accordance with applicable laws and professional ethical standards. There are certain circumstances in which a therapist may be required by law or professional standards to disclose information, and your therapist can discuss these limits with you at the beginning of the counseling process.
